On 16 September, 2022, the award ceremony for Shell Eco-marathon 2022 was held in Beijing. Jilin University (JLU)’s racing team, with its urban concept car, won the championship again after fierce competition with 29 teams from 18 universities, including Beijing Institute of Technology and Tongji University, and was recognized unanimously by the expert judges. This is the first time that a university has won the annual championship consecutively since the event was held in China.
The Shell Eco-marathon is an educational project for college and high school students around the world. Since 1985, the Shell Eco-marathon has been held in different cities across the Americas, Europe and Asia in rotation. It aims to encourage students to think creatively, design and build their own energy-efficient vehicles and compete on the track. The Shell Eco-marathon has been held worldwide for 37 years and was introduced to China in 2019 by the Teaching Steering Committee of Mechanical Major for Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Shell (China) Limited. JLU’s racing team has won the second place in Shell Eco-marathon 2019, the third place in Shell Eco-marathon 2020 and the championship in Shell Eco-marathon 2021. This season, it has successfully defended its annual championship! This marks an important achievement of JLU’s innovation and entrepreneurship practice education, and strongly reflects the effectiveness of its three-in-one holistic education.
